Charges have been dropped.

I find this to be somewhat ironic that the day after I post a link to my blog on Digg.com I receive a call from the Police. Turns out that my High School is not going to follow through with any charges now that they know who did it and they wanted to be sure to let my family know before Christmas. Could it be that my blog making it to the front page of Digg made an impact...? Who knows.

Anyways, they dropped the two felony charges against me and I can pickup ALMOST all of my stuff from the police station. They decided to keep all the CDs and DVDs they took to make sure I don't have any pirated software.

As for you non-believers that think I just completely fabricated this entire story... In two weeks when I can pick up my family's stuff and the case is closed, I will post some pictures of whatever I can. In fact, I have a piece of paper stating exactly what happened the day of the intrusion. I don't want to go and start posting things like that on the internet until the case is completely closed.

Wow, amazing story. It seems that all too often, it takes a little public attention for the leaders of institutions to realize how foolish they are. Too bad they seem to lack the common sense to do it themselves.

Sucky, dude. I did far worse in high school, never got cops at my house... though I did single handedly get our schools poster policy changed because our posters for "Vote for Oasisband.net, because anything is better than Robbie Chall" weren't approved, because a website couldn't run for student council. Nazi's... We plastered the school in those though... heh, we printed them with school paper...

I have the warrant and I said in this blog that I would post a copy once the case is closed.

lol, keeping 'all your CDs and DVDs 'in case' you have pirated anything.

Congrats on making the front page of Digg though, I'm sure that was your motivation/goal in this little scam.

you lied about the police keeping your cds and dvds. On a search warant they have to have a specific reason for confiscating objects and if they find other crimes because of the search that have nothing to do with the actual original reason then there is no case.

Ohmigod, [oops, can I say 'ohmigod,' or is that chargeable?] Anyway, I'm sooooo glad that our police are diligently catching the bad guys! Tracking them down, almost beating down the door, taking all cd's and equipment [which, I guess they'll have to take the time to view] ...yeah, I'm sooo glad they are this dedicated to catching the bad guys---meanwhile rape and mayhem out on the streets...

In the 60's cops were called 'pigs.' Now, I know why.

Thomas, apparently you aren't familiar with the fact the the police don't care about your rules. If they search your house or car and find evidence of crimes unrelated to the warrant, they use it. Case closed. The police's perspective is that everyone is guilty of something and if they have a chance to find out they're going to.

Dude you need to talk to your lawyer. If they seized your equipment due to one charge and then the charges are dropped you have to be given back all your software and hardware. Even if you do have pirated DVD's and CD's you cannot be re arrested on it because the warrent was outside the scope of priated software - they raided and took your stuff on a charge of hacking. It like the cops having a warrant to seach for stolen money and come across drugs - their warrant is outside the scope of that so you cannot be arrested for it. Talk to your lawyer - if the charges were dropped then they have to give you EVERYTHING BACK - they cannot keep software JUST TO MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE ILLEGAL SOFTWARE - thats aganst the law and aganst the constution - it's illegal search and seazure.

You need to seek the advice of a lawyer as soon as possible. The high school and the police depart WAY over-reacted to this situation and may be culpable to the state for the costs of the entire operation.

Please do provide a copy of the search warrant, which is in the public domain - to erase any doubt about this report.

Additionally, is there no local news coverage of this event? Again, sorry to be a doubter, but you need to provide some evidence on this charge.

Seek the advice of a lawyer immediately. If I were the state, I would be considering charges against the police department for misappropriation of public funds.

Dude, you need to talk to a lawyer because you get sued for libel.

If you posted this story at all, you would have no problem posting the proof.

You are obviously just hoping that people will forget in 2 weeks and you will never have to prove it.

But since I already contacted the school, and the police department to find out if it was true or not, I know it is bullshit. And they aRE considering suing you.

There's no such thing as Illegal software. what there looking for is illegal porn.
If you think for a second that cops obey the law during a search you've been watching too much TV.
They may never return his cd's or worse yet if they want to be real asses they may break them.

reason why this story is fake

1)hole department do come out if swat is involved
2)swat do not wait for homeowner to come home to open the door they bust in
3)swat is involved in situations that dangerous, otherwise local pd with 1/2 officer respond with a detective to serve a warrant
4)it takes more then 2 weeks for anything to be, especially for this type of "case" to be dropped

5)pirated dvd & cd's are civil matter and cops wouldn't care unless they suspected you selling them for profit.

6)this story is fake

Demonator, from what law school did you get your law degree?

If drugs are in plain sight when cops come in to the house they can and will arrest him/her for having illergal drugs. The only time they can't is if for ex they have warrant to search for t.v. and they look in the desk for a t.v. when obviously t.v. wouldn't be their.
